Albion manager Mark McGhee today revealed he will sign another attacker on loan before Thursday's transfer deadline to bolster the promotion challenge.
McGhee has virtually given up hope of bringing Trevor Benjamin back to the Seagulls for a third and final month after he started Leicester's Premiership draw at home to Everton on Saturday.
He intends instead to use the remaining loan available to him by adding another forward to the squad.
McGhee said: "We will talk to Micky (Adams) but I think we have resigned ourselves to Trevor staying at Leicester.
"The other important thing is if Trevor comes back he can only stay for a month. We should really use that loan on someone who can stay for the duration.
"There are players we know we can probably bring in and we must just make a decision which one it is. We want a forward player, whether it is a striker or a winger or somebody who can do a bit of both."
McGhee is desperate to have Danny Cullip fit for Saturday's trip to Sheffield Wednesday.
Cullip's departure with a thigh strain during the second half of Saturday's 2-1 home win against Colchester left three youth team products in the back four - Adam Virgo, Dan Harding and substitute Adam El-Abd.
"They looked as if they were not all that long out of the youth system," McGhee said.
"We need Danny back in there to marshal these young lads.
"He is the captain and he's playing well. He is very important to us, so we will be doing everything we can. We haven't got a midweek game, so that gives us a chance. We want him fit and out there."
Leon Knight's late winner against Colchester, his 24th of the season, cost McGhee money after Chris Iwelumo had headed Albion into a first half lead on his home debut.
"I had a little flutter on Leon to get a hat-trick," McGhee said. "Having watched him training alongside Chris I just felt there were goals to come from Leon playing with the big man and I can afford a pound!"
