Internationals Russell Martin and Scott Kirkwood went head to head for the first time in a Sussex Schools Under-19s Cup semi-final at Burgess Hill.
Kirkwood had the last laugh as Brighton, Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College pipped Varndean 4-3 in extra time to earn a final date against Park College (Eastbourne).
Two goals by Owen Callaghan put Varndean 2-0 up. Kirkwood converted a penalty on half-time when Ryan McMillan fouled Jack Holroyd and Tom Smith's lob levelled the scores.
Neil Watts restored Varndean's advantage, Peter Millan equalised and Joe Keehan hit the winner. Martin said: "It was weird playing against Scott as we've been Sussex team-mates for a while. It was a good game and deserved to be the final."
Martin skippered Varndean to their first Sussex Schools under-19s sixes title with a 5-0 home win against Steyning Grammar in the final.
In the semi-finals, opponents Park College had a player sent off for "foul and abusive language" during Varndean's 2-1 win.
Brian Brigden, the Sussex disciplinary secretary, said: "I don't want to name the player but what he did and said does not reflect well on Sussex schools football.
"He is likely to receive a 30-day ban but probably won't miss the Sussex final because the paper work is unlikely to be completed by then."
Steyning overcame Varndean B on penalties in the last four.
In their group, Varndean beat Imberhorne (East Grinstead) 5-0, Chichester High 1-0, Beacon (Crowborough) 1-0 and Collyers (Horsham) 2-0.
Varndean B defeated Collyers B 2-0, Hove Park 2-1, Littlehampton 2-0 and Haywards Heath 1-0 at the same stage. Poor finishing saw BHASVIC go out in the group stage to Park College.
