I was interested to read of the new Gateway to the City proposed on the coast road Portslade site (The Argus, March 26).
Being still higher, it would, I gather, supercede the original new gateway trumpeted by the council as one of the merits of the King Alfred "Tin Cans".
I confess I did not realise gateways were part of the new Strategic Plan.
They obviously open up many new opportunities.
To the north of Hove, we could demolish Woodland Court and build a dramatic 500ft skyscraper.
For the A23 perhaps the proposed new Albion Stadium could be extended to include a similar high rise building.
It would of course need to lean somewhat to the west for visibility but this should not pose a problem to the creative architects the council favour. We could call it Brighton's Pisa or Pizza.
The Lewes Road entry could easily be dealt with by erecting a 400ft pile on the old Preston Barracks site.
This leaves the Eastern coast road. Surely this would be no problem. We could just go ever upwards at the Marina.
All of these buildings would, of course, include affordable housing. And parking.
I can see the city now, surrounded by skyscrapers with flashing aircraft warning lights on top and, at ground level, flashing car parking status signs, all showing "Full".
It's the place to be.
