Further to your article on free condoms for gay men (The Argus, March 26), I think Rod Watson is living in cloud cuckoo land if he thinks he can offer free condoms to gay men and in time this will stem the spread of HIV.
I have been HIV positive for five years. I know who infected me and this person is going around gay clubs, cruising areas and bars, having unprotected sex.
I was told by this person that he was clean and has a reaction to the rubber in condoms. I believed him and now I have a death sentence hanging over my head.
I have my treatment in London, mainly because my infector is either in the Brighton clinic, which is a well-known cruising area, or one of his friends is there.
I am not promiscuous. I really thought this guy loved me. When I informed the staff at the clinic in Brighton, they said because of confidentiality there was nothing they could do.
I think if Rod Watson wants to do something useful he should campaign for a change in the law where it is a criminal offence for men to have unprotected sex with other people when they know they are HIV.
Removing VAT from condoms is going to do nothing.
