An international drugs company has given £1 million to a medical school.

Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) will use the money from Pfizer UK to develop its research.

Medical school dean Jon Cohen said: "The cash injection will make a significant difference to academic activity at the school.

"We are in the process of building a multi-million pound scientific research complex funded by the Science Research Investment Fund and this new grant will help.

"It will also support research programmes focusing on areas such as elderly care and infection."

Ruth Hargreaves, medical manager at Pfizer UK, said: "This is a valuable new partnership for us where we are hoping to develop a number of joint initiatives over the years."
