A young mother jailed for threatening to drag a police officer off Beachy Head with her has been found hanged in prison.

Paige Tapp, 23, was found dead in a cell at Send women's jail in Surrey, a month after being jailed for two years.

She was taken to the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford after being discovered by prison staff at 3pm on Sunday.

Mother-of-two Tapp, of Salehurst Road, Eastbourne, had been on suicide watch after threatening to kill herself.

She had received a two-year jail sentence at Hove Crown Court on March 22 after admitting three charges of making threats to kill.

The court heard she had made more than 60 calls to police, threatening to jump off Beachy Head, after her children were taken from her.

During one of the incidents she was talked away from the 535ft drop by Eastbourne-based PC Sasha Coote.

Tapp later blamed PC Coote for stopping her from jumping and told colleagues called to later incidents she wanted to take the officer over the edge with her.

She was arrested in August last year after making threats to kill PC Coote and a social worker.

Tapp had also put officers' lives at risk by running along the cliff edge in darkness.

Her defence lawyer said attempts to find Tapp a place at a hospital where she could be helped had been unsuccessful.

At a hearing in December, the court was told Tapp had suffered from severe post-traumatic stress disorder and depression since her children were taken.

Rob Hall, defending, said: "Her calls from Beachy Head were cries for help from someone who had nobody else in her life. The trigger was the loss of her two daughters."
