All-conquering Pulborough have clinched their fifth festival title of the season.

Pulborough became the most successful age group team in the club's 36-year history by defeating Crowborough 30-25 in their final at Hellingly.

It followed triumphs at the West Sussex, Chichester, Horsham and Dorking festivals.

Pulborough's team have recorded 22 wins this season and scored 125 tries.

Captain William Crane led by example with two tries against Crowborough. Josh Steggles also scored twice and Alex Kowszun and Oliver Suter each touched down.

Coach Steve Solomon, whose son Matthew was in the side, said: "I'm proud the boys have created a club record. To win that number of festivals in a season is rare.

"It's my first season as coach so I think I might quit while I'm ahead.

"The boys are quick learners and play well as a team.

"They've got used to winning. If the side go behind they aren't bothered because they expect to pull it back ."

Pulborough are now hoping to lift the Richmond and Twickenham Times Trophy at the Stoop prior to Harlequins' Premiership showdown against Bath on May 2.

They reached the finals after qualifying with a 10-5 win over Cobham and a 16-16 draw with Amersham and Chiltern.

Hosts East Grinstead and Chichester clinched their Festival crowns at rain-hit Saint Hill.

Grinstead under-tens' 25-5 victory against Horsham was their 48th win in 52 games this season.

Chichester under-eights' 25-5 success against Lewes means they have lost just once from the same number of fixtures.

A hat-trick from Nick De Brett helped Grinstead to secure their fourth festival triumph this term. Fraser Hyland and Harry Presland completed the scoring.

Grinstead have also won the Crawley, Bromley and East Sussex festivals.

Coach Chris Gillett, whose son Toby captained the side, paid tribute to his team of "little toughies".

He said: "Horsham were bigger but my side showed loads of aggression and tackled well.

"The team have been together for four years. They've developed from tag to full-contact rugby."

Grinstead included twins Drew and Rob Williamson.

Chichester's only trophy this season was achieved with victory over Lewes.

Giles Gunning scored two tries and Harry Johnson, Alex Russell and Kit Grant also touched down.

Clive Arden-Brown coached the side, his son Charlie was the skipper and nephew Devon also played.

Clive said: "We have a well-drilled side which has played together for three years. It showed."

The team's only female, Freya Davis, impressed while Stuart Wyer, Dominic Wood and Devon Arden-Brown also played well.

Haywards Heath under-13s secured their third successive Sussex League title when they defeated Crawley 24-0 at Burgess Hill.

Captain Ross Chisholm scored a try and kicked a penalty and three conversions, while Joe Hallam and Samuel Bradley also touched down. It was Bradley's first try of the season.

Brighton under-11s drew with Tondu and lost to Pencoed in the Welsh Festival of Rugby.

They also visited the Millennium Stadium. The players spent six months fund-raising for their first tour.

Coach Keith Brown said: "The lads played fantastic rugby and were great ambassadors for the club and the city."

Brighton under-12s beat Fullerians 29-10 with Darion Naylor, Chris Burns and Craig Holland each scoring two tries and Harry Leonard one.

Lewes under-17s defeated Hove 13-0. Daniel Wade kicked a penalty and Mark Pickering and Robert Jones scored tries.

Lewes under-nines won the Hastings minis tournament after beating Brentwood 15-0 in the final.

Their under-11s were runners-up to Cranbrook who beat them 10-0 and the under-sevens made the semi-finals.

Lewes girls lost 61-5 to Dorking in a home friendly.
