I was born in Southlands Hospital, Shoreham, on November 7, 1952. The night I was born, a severe gale raged, and my mother had trouble getting to the hospital because a large tree had fallen across the road.
During that stormy night, a new-born baby was found abandoned in a phone box on the Worthing front and taken to Worthing Hospital. Because of the storm, the nurses called her Gail. She was subsequently adopted.
I grew up hearing this story every birthday and Christmas, and all other family occasions. Our family always spares a thought for Gail, especially on our birthdays.
As I grow older, I find myself thinking more and more frequently of Gail, and wondering what happened to her.
If any one can give me any information, I would be very grateful.
I do not wish to contact her or intrude into her life in any way but I would like to know what happened to her. I can be contacted at elaine.ray@xtra.co.nz.
