Mr and Mrs Carter's complaint about parking near St. John the Baptist school (Letters, April 15) is worthy of reply.
Firstly, people who drive to the school should appreciate the consequences of their actions.
The school is on a bus route. This is used by many people, including the residents of the sheltered housing in the area. At certain times it is impossible for buses to ascend Whitehawk Hill because of stationary cars.
Equally, emergency vehicles are denied access to the area.
Secondly, many drivers claim the head-teacher permits such actions. This is not so.
The school newsletters frequently request parents/guardians not to park close to the school for safety reasons.
Thirdly, some parents arrive up to an hour before the children are due to leave school. Is this to get as close as possible to the school gates?
Finally, are people incapable of a short walk to a proper parking place as there are many within a comfortable five minute radius?
