The letter from a Ms Kean (April 16), "Rich, not sexy", who I suspect is neither sexy nor rich, proves how little she knows about the use of words in the English language she seeks to de-classify.
Because you are attractive, it does not necessarily follow that you are sexy and visa-versa.
In my very long experience, I have met a considerable number of ladies who were - and probably still are - what would be termed as "homely" and sometimes "plain" - definitely not rich, regrettably, but extremely sexy.
Plain is plain but can be sexy. Attractive is nice, pretty, cute, arm candy and - if you are very lucky - drop dead gorgeous but not necessarily rich or sexy.
If you must delete the word from your vocabulary, I suggest "desirable" will probably make you feel better.
