Saturday cannot come quickly enough for division one championship favourites Chichester City United.

Adie Girdler's side have one hand on the trophy after an emphatic 5-0 victory over basement boys Shoreham but Rye and Iden United won 2-1 at East Grinstead and could pounce if Chi were to lose against next week's visitors Sidley and Rye triumph by more than four clear goals at Pagham.

Chichester boss Girdler said: "As far as we are concerned it is just half-time and we must finish the job next week.

"The feeling among the players and the coaching staff is that next Saturday cannot come quick enough. Let's get it on."

Scott Tipper headed home after 17 minutes to settle any nerves for Chichester, Mark Jackson made it 2-0 and Matt Smith's deflected effort accounted for the third goal.

Late substitute Roger Moore scored twice to wrap up a comfortable victory and improve Chi's goal difference.

Rye beat Grinstead 2-1 with Simon Fox getting the winner after Kris Trevor had earlier cancelled out Phil Rhodes' headed opener.

Rye manager Ryan Light said: "We will now go down to Pagham determined to beat them and if something happens at Chichester then that will be great."

Rye's hopes of finishing at least in the runners-up spot were boosted by Three Bridges's 1-0 victory over East Preston, who had started the day in third spot but on the same points as Light's side.

A superbly struck Simon Funnell free-kick after 74 minutes decided the game.

Potential party-poopers Sidley drew 1-1 at Arundel in a game described as "entertaining for the neutral," by Mullets manager Steve Johnson.

Elliot Capel scored for the Arundel while Lee Wood equalised for the visitors.

Hassocks eclipsed their highest ever points total in division one with a 2-1 victory over Sidlesham in which Joe Fernley and Pat Harding got the goals.

Hunter pulled a goal back for Sidlesham, although they had a player sent off in the last minute for kicking a ball at a downed Hassocks player to add to their misery.

Selsey's new tongue-twisting strike pairing gave the side their first win since November.

Lee Paul and Paul Lee were both on target in a 2-1 home win over Southwick, who went ahead through Aaron MacMillan.

Father and son duo Russell. 40, and Aaron Gunn, 17, teamed up for Whitehawk and it was young Aaron who hit the target in the 2-0 home win over Pagham.

His free-kick deceived the keeper to open the score and Craig Bunch settled it from close range for youthful Hawks.
