Albion manager Mark McGhee today urged his players to "finish the job" of clinching a play-off place against relegated Notts County at Withdean on Saturday.
The Seagulls need a maximum of two points from their remaining two matches to be certain of a top six spot following Saturday's goalless draw at third-placed Bristol City.
Port Vale are the only team that can deny them. Vale are four points behind after their 2-1 win at Notts County condemned the East Midlands club to the drop.
Albion go to Wrexham on the final day with the extra security of a far better goal difference than Vale but McGhee wants the issue resolved before then.
"I think we need a win," he said. "I don't want to draw with Notts and then go to Wrexham needing a point. We want to try and finish the job.
"Notts are down, which is sad. I know people there and you wouldn't want that to happen to anyone but sometimes the fixture list can bring fortune.
"Maybe it is the right time to play them, but we cannot possibly be complacent. We are sixth and we know we need to win."
Hartlepool moved above Albion into fifth with a 2-0 victory at Rushden and Diamonds.
The Seagulls have two injury worries for the clash against County. Captain Danny Cullip played through the pain of a right foot injury sustained at the end of the first half on Saturday.
Chris Iwelumo was forced off deep into the second half after landing awkwardly on his left ankle. "I think it will turn out to be nothing more than a sprain," McGhee said.
