Tributes have been paid to a family doctor and father-of-six killed while jogging.
Dr Tim Carter, 54, died after a collision with a car. It happened while he was out running with friends on the A27 at Castle Goring, Worthing, just before 8pm on Monday.
A police investigation continues but it appeared he was crossing the road at the time.
The driver of the Citroen ZX, a 36-year-old man from Hove, escaped injury.
Flowers and sympathy cards have been arriving at Dr Carter's surgery in Lower Church Road, Burgess Hill, and patients have signed a book of condolence.
Dr Carter, who lived with his partner in Worthing, was a highly respected doctor in Burgess Hill, where he set up the practice three years ago.
He had previously worked in East and West Sussex as a GP and in advising health authorities on improving services.
He was a leading member of Mid Sussex Primary Care Trust's professional executive committee.
Trust chief executive Mike Wood said: "Tim was a devoted father and our deepest sympathies are with his family, work colleagues and friends.
"Tim made an important contribution to local health services both as a family doctor and through providing expert advice to the trust.
"He will be remembered for his warmth, humour, commitment and friendship."
Dr Carter had six children from different relationships. They range in age from five to their early 20s.
A keen athlete, he was a member of a running group and regularly jogged in Worthing and on the surrounding downs.
He trained at St Thomas's Hospital in London before becoming a GP, first in Lewes.
Sonja Bescoby, director of primary care, said: "I knew and worked with Tim for nine years and I can't think of a day that went by when we were not talking on the telephone or emailing.
"He was very supportive, a great adviser and was much loved by his patients, family and friends.
"He was lively, a great listener and great talker. We will all miss him dearly."
Dr Peter Lyle, another Burgess Hill GP, said: "This is a huge tragedy.
"Tim will be greatly missed by his patients. All of us valued him very highly."
A three-year-old girl hurt in a car accident on Monday is still in hospital.
She was in a buggy being pushed by her mother when they were involved in a collision in The Street, Rustington.
The mother escaped with minor injuries but her daughter suffered head wounds.
The driver, an 81-year-old woman, suffered shock. Police appealed for witnesses to the accidents to call 0845 6070999.
