Albion manager Mark McGhee today urged his players to make sure they are "really at it" in the potential play-off clincher against gloomy Notts County.
McGhee admits he does not know what to expect from relegated County in Saturday's match at Withdean.
But he is confident the Seagulls can claim the win which would guarantee a top six finish, providing they maintain their standards.
McGhee said: "It depends how their manager (Gary Mills) reacts. He might leave out players he is getting rid of and bring in young players with energy and enthusiasm, which is always difficult to play against.
"On the other hand, there might be players who have been told they have got contracts for next year. They could get a sense of relief from that and be buoyant, because they know they are going to have a chance to redeem themselves.
"You cannot read the script, because there are too many scripts. The only thing I can say is that we have got to be right and that is what I have said to my players.
"We must be the way we have been in the last couple of games and as long as we are we won't have a problem. We have got to be really at it and try to win the game as early as we can."
County have lost their last four away matches and leaked four goals in each of the last three. Albion will be in the play-offs even if they miss out on a ninth Withdean victory out of ten, as long as pursuing Port Vale fail to beat Tranmere.
The Seagulls confirmed today that Guy Butters has been voted Player of the Season by supporters, with Danny Cullip second and 26-goal Leon Knight third.
