Southwick are the surprise early leaders of division one after a six-wicket home triumph over Goring.

Wickers, who were promoted as runners-up in division two last season, had beaten Broadwater in their opening game thanks to a good bowling display.

They continued their impressive form by dismissing Goring for 109 with Paul Grennan taking 6-30.

Rob Hemmingway top scored for Goring with 50. Southwick reached 112-4 in reply to take 25 points.

The only other game in the division to survive the weather saw Broadwater win by six wickets at home to last season's runners-up Arundel.

Broadwater lost bowler Joe Owen when he dislocated his finger while catching Arundel skipper Steve Mullen but they still managed to restrict the visitors to 140-9 thanks to Fitzroy Hodges (4-33).

Arundel suffered an injury blow in reply when they were forced to field with ten men for most of the innings.

Richard Whitcomb went off with damaged ribs after just five deliveries after slipping and landing on the ball.

Broadwater took advantage and reached 143-4, with Steve Collins (66) doing the damage.

The division two programme was decimated by the weather and only one match was played.

Clymping, relegated from division one last season, won by four wickets at Keymer and Hassocks after restricting the home side to 156-9.

Clymping made 157-6 in reply thanks largely to 84 by Graham Blann.
