Seven schoolchildren were hurt in a crash involving two buses in Brighton today.

Five were treated on the spot for minor facial injuries and two were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton as a precaution.

The children from Benfield School in Portslade were on a number 49 bus which was in collision with a number 1 bus in North Street.

Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company managing director Roger French said: "We don't know why the bus had to pull up sharply.

"Another bus has taken the other children back to school."

The windscreen of one bus was cracked and the rear bodywork of the other was dented.
