I write in sympathy with Carol Miller who complained about conditions while visiting relatives at Brighton General Hospital (Letters, May 5). I've never been in there and, from the looks of the outside, wouldn't want to.
Can someone explain what is the obsession with continuing to use these old, decrepit buildings? I believe Brighton General was the original poor house here.
Similarly, why do planners insist on linking old hospital buildings with new hospital wings via long, boring corridors, for example Sussex County, Croydon's Mayday, St George's, Tooting, to name but three.
The old part of the Sussex County dates back to the Crimea War.
