Shopmobility is open in Brighton and Hove. The service is based in Grenville Street, behind Churchill Square Shopping Centre.
If anyone wants to use the scheme, make a donation towards the running costs (we are a non-profit organisation) or become a volunteer, please telephone David or Lisa on 01273 323239.
If any clubs or organisations run for older or disabled people would like a member of the team to visit them to talk about the scheme, please write to me.
David Johnson, co-ordinator, Brighton & Hove Shopmobility, Churchill Square, Grenville Street, Brighton BN1 2RF.
* We would like to thank Val Edwards for helping to spread the word about the Shopmobility scheme in Churchill Square.
Shopmobility provides a range of equipment for loan to those affected by restricted mobility.
For many older and disabled people, the scheme enables them to access city centre shops, the seafront and other places of interest in the city centre.
Shopmobility also provides a range of volunteer opportunities, including working in the shop and acting as escorts.
Brighton and Hove City Council provided the initial funding to Community Transport so that the scheme could get up and running. It has so far contributed £250,000 capital costs and a £49,000 revenue grant.
Standard Life, the owner of Churchill Square Shopping Centre, provided space for the service.
Community Transport is seeking further funds to secure the long-term future of the scheme and to enable it to be open at the same times as Churchill Square itself - currently it is only available three days a week.
-Councillor Gill Mitchell, chairwoman, Brighton & Hove environment committee
