Albion manager Mark McGhee today pinpointed the play-off experience of powerful target man Chris Iwelumo as a big factor in the Seagulls' favour.

Iwelumo was promoted to Division One via the play-offs two seasons ago with his previous club Stoke.

They beat Brentford in the final at the Millennium Stadium after a dramatic semi-final against Cardiff.

McGhee, preparing his players for Sunday's first leg at Swindon, said: "I think it's very significant. Chris Iwelumo has played in a final at Cardiff.

"Not only is it important from the point of view of temperament but also the encouragement he will give the others to try to get there and the experience that it is going to the Millennium Stadium.

"For anybody who has not been there believe you me you want to get there. As a player or supporter it is just hard to beat."

Iwelumo, fresh from his fourth goal in ten games at Wrexham on Saturday, has told his team-mates to expect the unexpected.

"The Cardiff games were tremendous," he said. "They beat us 2-1 at home and then, when we went down to Ninian Park, a guy came on the tannoy with one minute to go when it was 0-0 and said no 'pitch invasion please'.

"We scored in the last minute, they had a man sent-off and we scored again in extra time.

"Everyone has experienced a 90 minutes where everything goes wrong or everything goes right and that can happen in the play-offs.

"Look at Bournemouth in the Third Division final last year. They scored five, which is unbelievable."
