Last year, we had a very effective way of collecting our garden refuse ready for recycling.

This finished in the autumn and we all thought it would be resumed again this summer.

Not so. I have now been informed by the refuse collectors that they will not take garden waste due to larger rounds leaving lack of space on the truck.

However, the office has informed me that I will be allowed one bag a week. The binmen kindly took my two bags last week, which by the way I had separated into green bags, and was informed that that would be the last time.

As we already recycle a good deal of household waste every fortnight, our dustbins are all considerably lighter than previously, as things such as newspapers, bottles, cans etc are now in our boxes.

As someone who is on my own, I do not have a lot of rubbish and intend to just put my garden refuse in my bin without separating it.

I am not alone in the fact that I do not have a car so am unable to go to the tip. This is a problem that will affect a great many people and needs to be dealt with properly as soon as possible.
