Sylvia Harwood is quite correct, air guns should be banned (Letters, May 5).
The same argument could equally be used for the banning of the private ownership of domestic cats who kill and decimate millions of the wild bird population every year, or the car, which kills wild animals.
Sylvia should stick to facts - hundreds of thousands of shooting enthusiasts belong to properly regulated clubs, shooting legally and safely, the only danger being to a sheet of paper a few yards away.
The "ban everything" brigade are running out of steam and facts. The ban on the sport of target pistol shooting has done nothing to reduce the rise in armed crime. Home Office figures just released show an increase of more than 40 per cent since the ban.
The constant calls from small minorities for bans does nothing except persecute large numbers of law abiding people. It must be hoped the RSPCA and police track down this barbaric individual and use the many existing laws to prosecute them.
