I feel so sorry for the residents of Brighton and Hove not knowing when their rubbish will be collected from one week to the next.
The dispute between the binmen and their council employers appears to have been going on for a considerable time and I have seen the piles of black bags now accumulating in the city's streets. Is there no way out of this dispute? Perhaps an independent professional arbitrator whose decision would be binding?
I feel all parties might benefit from consulting my own council, Adur district, on the question of harmonious relations between employers and employees. The binmen here are second to none, including the blue box collectors, and I have nothing but praise for them. Perhaps a chat with them would learn the secret of their success?
