Brighton's traffic problems are caused by political dogma. The policy that prevents any more building of car parks has caused this town to clog up.
Anyone travelling from Crawley, Lewes or Eastbourne has to cross town to get to a car park. Anyone travelling from Hove has to come into town because that's where the car parks are. All it needs to solve these problems is a little imagination.
To start with, the Bullet is already provided by Volks' Railway. The fault was that no one could see the benefit of extending it into the half-empty car park in the Marina.
And what's wrong with extending the railway in the other direction too, past the Palace Pier (like Blackpool) and into Hove? The new development at King Alfred could include a rail link (park and ride).
Why not extend it to the Lagoon?
A link could be made from Southern Cross, down Trafalgar Road/Church Road to a park and ride at the Lagoon. How about a link from the King Alfred to Hove Railway Station and another from Brighton Station to the seafront?
The Crawley and Lewes links meet at The Level where not much happens.
So, water table permitting, build an underground car park with entrances and exits from both sides.
Whether or not the stadium is built at Falmer, it's a perfect place for a park and ride with both buses and special runabout trains - both of which could have a link with another park and ride at the site of the old Territorial Army barracks in Lewes Road.
Finally, a park and ride at the junction of Braypool, Waterhall, A23, A27 and the rail line to London could have pick up points (both bus and rail) at Withdean.
It's easy. Congestion solved, parking solved, lots of visitors spending money in our shops, plus lots of jobs in both the building of the project and in the running of it.
