I feel for the lady who had problems getting a jiffy bag delivered. However, at least the post office did try to deliver it (Letters, July 12).
I recently had a card through my letterbox advising me a packet was awaiting collection at the delivery office, which I would be able to collect if I paid a fee of £1.02.
This fee was made up of a £1 "handling charge" and 2p to make up the shortall of the stamps the sender had put on the envelope.
The Glasgow Contact Centre is, apparently, the place to which one has to complain about the postal service. I did so.
They were clear that any under-stamped mail will be dealt with in this way.
I suggested that if they are prepared to incur the wrath of their customers in order to retrieve 2p, then they ought to put a similar effort into returning the excess when too much postage is paid.
They failed to see my point.
God help us all, the bean counters are taking over the world.
