More than 70,000 people will move home this year simply to ensure their child can go to a good school, research claims.
About four per cent of people who have moved or are planning to move from April to September said they were doing so to ensure they lived in the right catchment area.
This compared with three per cent of people who wanted to move to a property with a garden and a similar proportion who were moving away from the city to the country, according to Sainsbury's Bank.
The main reason people gave for moving during the period was the need for more space, with 23 per cent moving to a bigger house, while ten per cent were moving because of their job.
