John Plowman (Letters, July 17) is right when he says Brighton and Hove City Council's traffic policy needs reviewing.
Any restrictions on traffic flow due to chicanes, islands, extra signals and special lanes will snarl up traffic, not allow it to clear naturally.
What is the council going to do about traffic other than adopt a King Canute approach to it?
We have the freedom to choose how, when and where we wish to travel. Public transport will never be convenient for short trips and can never cater for our needs of luggage, shopping and the occasional emergency trip.
Wake up, Brighton, and do something that will clear up this congestion and allow visitors to get in, shop, sightsee and go freely.
