Albion gave former Wimbledon winger Albert Jarrett a trial today as Mark McGhee continued his search for a winger.

McGhee is keen to sign a wideman before the season kicks off on August 7 and the 19-year-old left-winger was expected to play against Arsenal under-21s behind closed doors.

Seagulls reserve manager Dean White watched the pacey Jarrett when he guested for Conference south Lewes during a 3-2 friendly defeat against Crawley at the Dripping Pan on Tuesday night.

Albion boss McGhee said: "The player has impressed enough for us to offer him a trial. We will take a look at him in training and see how he goes."

Jarrett played nine League games for Wimbledon last season and also turned out for the Dons in a 2-0 League Cup defeat against Wycombe.

He has also had a spell with Dulwich Hamlet, where Lewes boss Steve King was assistant manager.

Trialist Darren Currie, the former Wycombe right winger, trained with the Seagulls again yesterday after coming on as a substitute in the 3-1 friendly win at Weymouth on Wednesday.

McGhee also wants a target man, following the departure of Chris Iwelumo even though former Atletico Madrid reserve player Maheta Molango signed a three-year deal on Wednesday.

McGhee has been quick to quell injury fears surrounding goalkeeper Ben Roberts.

Roberts, who was out for two months with a bad back, missed the Weymouth match.

But McGhee said: "Ben just had a sore knee, it's no problem. I intend to play him in the friendly against Southend next Wednesday."
