Albion hope to loan some of Arsenal's young stars this season.

The Seagulls, with a team of young professionals and trialists, beat a Gunners under-21 side 1-0 on Friday through a Jake Robinson goal in a match played at the champions' London Colney training ground.

And Albion chairman Dick Knight, who arranged the game, revealed that some of the opposition might end up on loan at Withdean next season.

He said: "The game was organised to give our younger players a wonderful experience and a very testing run-out as well as us being able to look at some of the Arsenal youngsters we might bring in on loan during the season.

"Mark McGhee, our coaches and myself saw some of the players that Arsenal would be prepared to loan to us, not now but as the season progresses."

Knight believed the experience worked for both clubs.

He said: "Liam Brady (the former Albion manager now in charge of the Arsenal youth set-up) told me it was a great run out for them while it showed our youngsters are coming through at a good pace of development.

"All of our back four are young players, all the Adams, El-Abd, Virgo and Hinshelwood and Dan Harding who kept some of Arsenal's best youngsters at bay.

"That is very encouraging for the future and shows we've got strength in depth in defence."

Trialists Albert Jarrett and Darren Currie both played against Arsenal.

Knight said: "Jarrett looks an interesting prospect. He is an out-and-out left winger who is very hard to knock off the ball.

"We took another look at Darren (who played at Weymouth on Wednesday). I'm a great admirer of his skills but he needs to work on his fitness."
