I read with interest yet another complaint about the noise made by aircraft using Shoreham Airport (Letters, July 24).

What are people carping on about? The only people who really have room for complaint are those who were living in the neighbourhood prior to the airport being built and developed.

I doubt if there are too many of those in relation to the number of houses.

Anyone buying a house close to an airport must surely know what they are doing and therefore expect to be subject to noise pollution. Proper research prior to purchase would clearly have shown the downside of living close to an airfield.

Why whinge about other people's "expensive hobby" when there is an obvious solution? For anybody finding themselves in a similar situation, I have two pieces of advice:

1. If you don't like aircraft, don't buy a house near an airport.

2. If, having bought a property, you find it too noisy, call the estate agent, cut your losses and move to where the noise is not a problem.

Just in case you are wondering, I am not one of those fortunate enough to be in a position to fly but I do not begrudge those who do.

Long may the airport continue to provide its facilities.
