What a flurry of bigotry has reared its ugly head in the letters pages following the good actions by Sussex police and Brighton and Hove City Council to show support for the city's gay community.
I refer to both David Rowland and Dean Docherty who "have nothing against gay people" yet use an argument which they wouldn't apply on other occasions.
Using a fire service turntable ladder to put up a gay flag is wrong yet no one complained when it was used to put up a banner to advertise the French Market in Hove.
Flying a flag at the police station as a mark of respect is wrong for gays but fine if it's for anyone else.
Mr Rowland worries he is becoming a minority.
Well, if you do, Mr Rowland, you'll understand what discrimination is and why such gestures are so important.
