Albion manager Mark McGhee today warned his young players they must keep cool heads if the Seagulls are to survive in the Coca-Cola Championship.
McGhee ticked off Adam Virgo and Leon Knight after they collected late bookings for fouls in last night's goalless friendly draw at Southend.
Virgo had his name taken for a foul and Knight, suspended for Albion's opening three League fixtures, followed suit after coming on in the second half.
McGhee said: "It wasn't quite right. Apart from the performance there were elements towards the end in particular.
"I spoke to both Virgs and Leon in the dressing room. They lost a bit of composure.
"I said to them if you are going to lose your composure at a place like this in a pre-season friendly, how are you going to be at somewhere like Upton Park when there are 35,000 people screaming at you?
"There is a big lesson for the younger players to learn. We must have self-discipline going into this League, because if we don't, we will get taken apart."
McGhee will also be working with new-signing Maheta Molango to stop him giving away silly fouls.
"We saw him naively give away three or four free kicks." McGhee said. "He thought they weren't but we were convinced, like the referee, they were and that's something we've learned about Maheta."
Serbian striker Zombor Kerekes played the whole match and fellow trialist Albert Jarrett was introduced in the second half.
