The Royal Hippodrome, which has survived closure threats and could become a dazzling new community theatre if The Royal Project plans are fulfilled, is currently proving that variety is alive and kicking with Hooked On Laughter.
This lively new cabaret show, presented by Matthews Productions, has a great top-of-the-bill act in comedy ventriloquist Steve Hewlett. It’s rare to see someone keeping their mouth closed to such impressive effect – and his comedy routines are first-rate too.
Comedy impressionist Drew Cameron shows why he impressed Simon Cowell on Britain’s Got Talent with his fresh topical material.
Another Britain’s Got Talent act, Vizage, alias husband and wife Sam and Vicky, wow the audience with their illusions and quick-change routine. They are well supported by bubbly comedian and singer Wayne Champagne, singer and choreographer Georgia Lee and dancing group Danze Fantasy.
But perhaps Wayne would benefit from more flattering costumes and a wig that doesn’t fall off!
