Lewes manager Steven King is refusing to be downbeat despite seeing his side lose 4-0 at Grays Athletic.
Leroy Griffiths scored two goals in four minutes around the hour mark, before Rooks had goalkeeper Ade Bankole sent off for a deliberate elbow.
With no replacement on the bench, defender Joe Vines went in goal to face the penalty which was converted by Griffiths, who went on to score his fourth five minutes from time.
King said: "I haven't got too many grumbles about it because of the circumstances which caused the defeat. We had two one-on-ones and if they had gone in then the game would have been completely different.
"Once we had our keeper sent off then that was it. There was no way Grays were four goals better than us because we out-played them for large periods, which is not bad considering they are a full-time club."
