I found your article about the sculptures at the bottom of Connaught Road, Hove (The Argus, August 19), quite interesting for two reasons.
Firstly, I think it says something significant about Karis's attitude in general.
Why, having set aside a sum of money for street art, did the company just plonk down two pieces without further ado?
A competition with the public voting for the winner from a shortlist would have revealed a deal more concern and respect for local opinion.
Secondly, my understanding of the position is that, notwithstanding the overturning of the council's original decision regarding the art, Connaught Road is to be closed off at the Church Road end, which is in accordance with the wishes of the residents.
Indeed, expenditure from the Tesco development environmental improvement money was voted towards this. Nevertheless, you state that Karis paid for the sculptures as a "gateway" to Connaught Road.
I would like to know if we are going to be able to drive through this gate. I rather suspect that the residents fervently hope not.
Perhaps someone who knows the answer will write in.
