Most workers believe productivity will be hit when pubs are allowed to open 24 hours a day, a survey has revealed.

Younger employees particularly fear next summer's extension of drinking hours will be bad for business, according to research by recruitment web site reed.co.uk

One worker questioned said he was sick over his boss after a night of drinking. Another collapsed in the office and others admitted slurring their words the morning after a drinking session.

Workers in retail and distribution were most likely to believe that productivity would suffer.

Reed said ten million working days were lost every year because of excessive drinking, costing business £960 million.
