I write with great sadness regarding the case of Jess Morris (The Argus, August 2), a person with so much life to live, ambition and kind regard for others, being portrayed as an attacker.
Jess is a young man wanting to better his career, working hard to achieve the high standards he set for himself.
Acting in self defence, he found himself branded the aggressor. Jess hated any confrontation and avoided bad situations.
He is a thoughtful and positive person. Suddenly his whole life, hopes and dreams have slipped away.
He was scared for his own life as these people were attacking him. The sentence he received is very high, almost equal to causing death by drink driving, or manslaughter.
This situation spiralled out of control and lives changed in seconds, ending in Jess being the sole person to be punished. Five years and four months is a very long time for a normal, everyday person to be locked away, especially for someone with a lust for life.
The others have been able to go back to their normal life. Jess has lost so much. They are free.
Jess will prove this act was self-defence.
I hope he has his sentence quashed or even reduced. In fact, he should be released as innocent, compensated and able to walk free.
A misunderstanding has resulted in wrongful imprisonment. Where is the justice?
