I always thought my views on the West Pier were controversial and everybody was being far too sentimental over a piece of history.
Then you published a letter by Doug Leitch, who mentioned he had Nick Cave's support for his brilliant idea of keeping the end section of the pier and growing marine plantlife all over it.
Well, he has my support as well. What a great idea. I cannot fault it and surely it should keep everyone happy.
Part of the structure remains, it costs hardly anything compared to some of the plans mooted and it would remain a beautiful, interesting landmark that says something about the people who live here now.
I love the idea of it not making money. We need to think more of each other and less of profit. I gladly offer, free of charge, any campaign support for this scheme.
