Steve Dennis successfully defended his Sussex 25-mile Championship, despite a strong challenge from Hastings rider Peter Tadros.

The East Grinstead CC rider stormed round an undulating course in the Steyning and Shoreham area to clock an impressive 54min.31sec.

Tadros (In Gear) recorded 54min.45sec for the silver medal, while Steve Geran (GS Stella) took the bronze with 55min.59sec.

Chris Yates (In Gear), the younger brother of former Tour de France stage winner Sean Yates, finished fourth in 56min.0sec.

Fifth place went to James Dear (In Gear) with 56min.41sec while his clubmate Jon Sharples, the 2002 champion, placed sixth in 57min.15sec.

In Gear won the four-man team championship ahead of GS Stella and VC Etoile.

Etoile's Mike Coyle, strongly tipped for an individual medal, was a non-starter.

Harry Featherstone (Eastbourne Rovers) won the veterans' handicap while Niki Treacy (GS Stella) clocked 1hr.6min.29sec to win the women's title.

Dennis, 41, is not sure how many Sussex and East Sussex championships he has won in the past 20 years, but it is approaching 30.

Lancing rider Natacha Maes, who moved to Belgium last year, has won the Belgian road race and time trial championships.

Thousands of spectators will watch the final stage of the Tour of Britain in central London on Sunday.

There will be a big welcome for triple Olympic medal winner Bradley Wiggins who will fancy his chances in the 68km stage starting at Whitehall at 3pm.
