Much has been made of the National Lottery win by a convicted prisoner and Home Secretary David Blunkett has pledged prisoners will be barred from any such win in the future.
Mr Blunkett would better spend his time and energy ensuring convicts were not allowed out on weekend leave when they are supposedly serving life sentences.
When are we going to ensure the sentences handed down are served in full? We have become accustomed to sentences being automatically halved, which makes a mockery of the whole procedure. Life should mean life.
