Adam Trimingham's article on the "slow death of the Tories" (The Argus, August 25) made interesting reading. There is no doubt that the true blue political map of Sussex has changed beyond recognition in recent years.
However, in his attempt to talk up the Lib-Dem's prospects and their sole parliamentary seat in Lewes, he is less than objective. The really sensational impact of the 1997 Labour landslide here in Sussex was the election of five Labour members of Parliament. Even more important was their re-election in 2001.
Even as recently as ten years ago, anyone making this prediction would have been laughed at and told to stop living in political cuckoo land.
When political change comes, it comes very quickly.
