Mike Brown has dismissed speculation that he is about to step down a division to join Worthing Thunder.
The 31-year-old guard, who has been with Bears for the last five seasons, has been linked with a move along the coast.
News that Brown has shelved plans to retire could spark a scramble among British League clubs for the signature of a player who offers the tempting combination of a high quality American college background, a wealth of professional experience and a British passport.
Brown said: "I'm definitely going to play but I've had no contact with anyone about joining Worthing.
"I haven't spoken to Nick Nurse either. I will be playing but I'm not sure where."
The chances of Jason Siemon returning appear to be receding.
Bears have their first pre-season game against Le Havre in Cherbourg a week on Thursday and host an international tournament on September 18-19. More new signings will be expected before then.
