I am appalled by the attitude and behaviour of Hove Library and Brighton and Hove City Council towards Mrs Innes and her discussion group (The Argus, September 3).
It is quite clear, upon even a brief inspection, that Theosophy is not a religion (or a political party) and yet these these ignorant public servants, whose wages are paid out of our taxes, feel they have the right to dictate what ideas are acceptable in Brighton and Hove.
Is this still the dark ages, when heresy is punishable?
Have the past 500 years counted for so little that anything metaphysical still gets this medieval knee-jerk reaction?
One would have thought they would at least take the trouble to ensure their position was correct before discriminating against the representatives of an educational charity.
I note that posters for yoga and shiatsu are still in place.
Since both of these derive from "religious" concepts, perhaps these over-zealous guardians of our intellectual freedom should do some spring-cleaning?
Or perhaps they should give local people who are interested in more weighty matters than the local cat show the opportunity to find out what is on offer in our multi-racial, multi-sexual, multi-denominational community?
