International Claire Manton will attend English Schools regional trials at Southampton next week.

Claire, 17, takes on competitors from Hampshire and Dorset in the 200m individual medley and 100m backstroke, plus the 4x100m freestyle and medley relays.

If successful, the Brighton club ace will go forward to next month's national trials when selectors will choose the England team for the Home International in Wales next March.

She has been selected by her country for the past two years.

Manton, a student at Sussex Downs (Lewes), said: "I feel I can make it again. I've just come back from holiday and am getting stuck into my training to be ready.

"I've enjoyed the selection process before. Last season, I won the 100m backstroke in the national trials and went on to win the event for my country in the Home International. I would be proud to represent my country again."

Manton, an Olympic triallist, flew the flag at the European Schools' Championship in Italy in May.

She said: "I managed to make the finals. There aren't any this year but just to try and win for England again in Wales will be enough of an incentive."
