Your feature on the Channel Island of Alderney (The Argus, August 21) must be the best ever written on the Channel Islands.
Having just returned from a week's holidaying there, I was able to judge for myself a few things the author wrote.
First, there is no requirement for MOT certification for motor vehicles. I estimate that if it was introduced then upwards of ninety per cent of the island's traffic would be unable to get insurance and subsequently be off the road.
As for the island sport appearing to be drinking, this is very true. In fact, if it were an Olympic event, all three medals would have been won by Alderney.
It was also said that the pubs closed a twelve o'clock. That is only during the winter months.
They stay open later in the summer and, guess what, there's no anti-social behaviour at closing time.
It's a marvellous place to holiday so, with flights from Shoreham Airport, I'll be giving Spain a miss.
I can't recommend Alderney enough.
