It was with great interest I read Adam Trimingham's review of the book about Preston Village.
Having lived there in my younger days and being a pupil of Preston CofE School, it brought back many memories both happy and sad.
One sentence brought a lump to my throat and a tear to my eyes.
Ten-year-old Charlie Siddal, who was killed in an air raid with his gran in Scarborough Road, was a great friend and school mate of mine.
He was a timid young lad but quite prepared to join in whatever games or adventures the rest of the kids decided on.
I heard the bomb explosions but never for one second do you think someone you know is among the casualties.
Being only 11 years old at the time, when I learnt it was Charlie, it broke my heart.
Time heals the pain but the memory is still there.
