I was incensed but not entirely surprised to read that Timothy Jones has submitted a counter claim against Harriet Jordan-Wrench for being a pedestrian (The Argus, August 28).
As far as I am aware, there are no rules or indeed laws prohibiting pedestrians from crossing roads.
As your article informs us, Mr Jones was in collision with Miss Wrench and, by a witness's opinion, travelling at a lethal speed along Madeira Drive, Brighton.
Mr Jones was aware of a dark shadow in front of him. Well, Mr Jones, that dark shadow was a fellow human being.
You should have realised that at that time of night there would be a large number of people leaving bars and night clubs and, amazingly, they cross roads.
The fact that Mr Jones's insurers' counter claim has been issued four years after the accident on the premise that Miss Wrench was at fault by not taking proper care and was at fault for the damage to the vehicle, is somewhat contradictory.
If this case continues, I would hope Miss Wrench's family pursue a private law suit for her terrible injuries and the effect on her life.
My girlfriend and I were involved in a near fatal accident last October and the driver of the other vehicle was successfully convicted of careless driving.
We wish Miss Wrench all the best with her recovery. Oh, and Mr Jones, if you care to know the effects this can have on your life, just give me a call. I would be only too glad to tell you.
