Eastbourne United Association have been given an FA Cup reprieve after their extra preliminary round conquerors Greenwich Borough were thrown out of the competition.

Greenwich were found guilty of player irregularities at a hearing at Soho Square last night meaning United go through to face Thamesmead away in the preliminary round on Tuesday night.

Eastbourne lost 6-3 at Greenwich but suspicions were raised about the identity of the scorer of two of the goals by a non-league groundhopper who reported the incident to the FA.

Manager Dave Shearing said: "It was obvious he was not a Kent League player because he was different class. It is a real bonus to be back in the Cup and hopefully we can take advantage against Thamesmead."

Meanwhile, Ringmer goalkeeper Ross Standen will continue to take penalties this season.

Standen scored from the spot in last week's FA Cup 3-2 win against Andover after winning a penalty competition in training.

Manager John Crumplin said: "I said whoever won the competition would be the regular penalty taker and I'm a man of my word.

"The only problem will be if he has one saved and they boot it up the other end, so he better not miss."

Jay Pickering (hamstring) and Andy Agutter (ankle) both return for tomorrow's FA Vase first qualifying round home tie against Cove.

Whitehawk boss Ian Chapman has predicted an upturn in his side's fortunes. The Hawks have won one of their first seven games and face a tough trip to Rye in the league tomorrow.

Chapman said: "We have played well in our last couple of matches and we look like we are just about to turn the corner."

Sean Cooper (knee) and Ben Garman (hamstring) return.
