Bognor boss Jack Pearce experienced the whole range of emotions as Bognor beat rockbottom Welling United in an 11-goal thriller at Nyewood Lane.
After going in level at 3-3 at half time Bognor fought back from 5-3 down to snatch the points and climb to fourth in the table.
Pearce said: "It was an exciting game for the crowd but not for either manager. I went from elation to despair and frustration to relief at the end when we took the three points.
"I've never been involved in such a high scoring game and I was so relieved to win because to lose a match like that would have been devastating."
Dan Beck and Luke Nightingale put Rocks 2-0 up after 26 minutes, but Welling pulled one back through Bernard Narada.
Bognor received another blow when goalkeeper Craig Stoner went off with a broken finger and was replaced by David Leaver whose first job was to pick the ball out of the net as Paul Booth made it 2-2.
Booth then put Welling ahead just before the break, only for Nightingale to equalise from the spot on the stroke of half time.
Stephen Hughes put Welling in control with two goals in the first ten minutes of the second half but Michael Birmingham responded almost immediately.
Nightingale completed his hat-trick with a 58th minute equaliser - his tenth of the season - and Ben Watson scored the winner 12 minutes from time.
