Charlie MacDonald today insisted he is not leaving Crawley.

The former Charlton striker was reported to be moving to York City on the eve of Reds' 1-0 home win against the Minstermen.

But the 23-year-old marksman, who has scored five goals in seven Conference games this season, has dismissed the claims.

He said: "It is utter rubbish and I was as surprised as everybody. I don't know where me saying I wanted to leave the club came from.

"Whether there was any truth in the matter from York, or their manager was playing mind games to try and unsettle us, no one knows. But I have not had any contact with York."

MacDonald made eight appearances for Charlton, scoring one goal, before being released two seasons ago.

He admits he wants to play full-time football but says he would be happy to do that with Reds.

He said: "I have made it no secret that I have a desire to return to full-time football but I've never said I wanted to leave the club and I didn't say I was going to leave. If Crawley go full time and they can offer me a package that is suitable to me and my family then I would have no hesitation in signing."

Manager Francis Vines added: "It's a load of old tosh. If someone wants to part with a rather large cheque, and I mean large, then we may think about it.

"Even then they would have to twist my arm to take it because at the moment Charlie is playing very well and long may it continue."
