I need to drive into Brighton and park to visit clients during the day at their homes or places of work.
When a meeting time is arranged it is not practical to catch the bus (although in the evening my wife and I often catch the regular bus into town).
I need to arrive for meetings at shops and clients' homes on time. I hate to be late, it is so rude and unnecessary. I have to take the car as I have a laptop and most likely a briefcase.
However, I find myself leaving more than half-an-hour early to allow for the inevitable driving around trying to find that all too elusive parking space.
Recently, I was about to leave my car in the Brunswick Square area - having bought a ticket - only to be warned by a helpful resident that his road had confusing signs and I was actually in a residents only area.
It should all be so simple but residents are confused, their friends are getting tickets in their street when visiting them and it is making doing business in the city harder and increasingly unpleasant.
With the seemly random mix of ad hoc resident-only and ticket zones it can be confusing to the infrequent holidaymaker or business person as to where it is safe to park, especially when you are late for your meeting having already driven round for a time trying to find a place.
For the frequent driver into Brighton frustration in finding a space is the name of the game.
I support parking schemes but the council should be providing alternatives before concentrating on penalising the motorists.
